Q: What data sources does the DecisionPointcloud server support?
A: The DecisionPointcloud server allows you to access Excel® (both .xls and .xlsx formats), comma-separated (CSV) files, and Salesforce® data sources.
If you want to connect to other corporate data sources (e.g. your organization's databases), you should check out DecisionPointon premise server.
Q: Does it work with my version of Excel®?
A: Yes, DecisionPointsupports Excel® versions back to 1997 and works with both .xls and .xlsx files.
Q: How many people can I share a dashboard with?
A: There are 2 ways to share your dashboards and apps:
  • You can share dashboards with any other user in your account through the platform. You can add as many users as you like to your account
  • You can also use public views to share dashboards with people who are not set-up as users of the system under your account. In this case you provide them with a URL link (which you can email or embed in web page), so they can access the content. Public views are available to purchase in bundles of 500 views per month.
Q: What are public views?
A: When you want to publish information publicly (e.g. to a website) or to share it with a user outside of the DecisionPointserver (e.g. by emailing a link), then public views are the answer. With public views, anyone who you share the link with can view the dashboard.
Public views are offered in bundles of 500 views per month. Each time someone views a dashboard this counts towards one of your monthly views.

Q: Can't I just create dashboards in Excel®?
A: Depends what you mean by a dashboard! If you had unlimited time, resources and patience then, yes, you could create basic, old-style dashboards in Excel®. However, Excel® was never designed as a dashboard tool so you are entering a world of pain — a world of monster spreadsheets full of complex, interrelated formulas that are a nightmare to maintain, a world of broken macros and missing links. If this sounds familiar and if you are looking for a way to save time, money and your sanity when creating dashboards then find out why DecisionPoint™ is right for you.
Q: Can't I just use the standard Salesforce® reports and dashboards?
A: Out of the box, Salesforce® offers basic, tabular reports and static dashboards. Both lack interactivity, restrict you to reporting across 2-3 entities and don't allow you to create the KPIs and measures that matter to your business. To get the most from your investment in Salesforce, you need a more flexible, agile and interactive way to visualize your data. Find out how DecisionPoint™ provides the capabilities you need.

Q: How does DecisionPoint Server handle very large data volumes?

For regular data volumes, the entire results set can be downloaded to the client, which means everything happens locally and business users enjoy blisteringly fast response times. With larger data volumes, drilling and filtering can be delegated to the server. As a business user drills through their data, DecisionPoint fetches additional subsets of data from where it is cached on the server to ensure they always see the right information at the right level of detail.
